 REAL STEEL

Starring Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goyo
2011, 113 mins, [PG-13]

Re: A boy and his father bond over giant fighting robots!

Outstanding: Great effects and design on the robots. Some surprisingly effective emotional moments. I loved the way the movie took a casual view of the future, made the changes subtle and accepted by the actors, they were never shoved down the viewer's throats.

Unacceptable: It's still a movie about giant robots punching each other. Cars is a good movie, but it's still a flick about Nascar.

Summary: I liked this more than I thought I would and most people I talked to have said the same. The premise is ridiculous but Jackman and Goyo are adorable together and the effects are top notch.

4/5
