Lego Review - Olivia's Tree House

#3065-1 OLIVIA'S TREE HOUSE
Lego Friends
2012, 191 pieces, $20

Re: One of the first entries in the new Lego Friends line, designed to appeal to girls. Olivia's retreat, complete with cat, birdhouse, plenty of flowers bugs and secret places.

Outstanding: Very cute. The colors, though undeniably girly feel remarkably fresh and fun. I adore the insects. The minifigure, Olivia is built more solidly than I'd expected. The set is fun, decidedly different and quite playable.

Unacceptable: Olivia's legs don't move independently. The bird is a little on the goofy side.

Summary: Overall, I was really impressed with this cute little set. A ton of accessories, and built on a more realistic scale for play than a lot of the recent regular releases from Lego. Her tree house is almost the same size as the Harry Potter Burrow, which is supposed to be the home for half a dozen people. I love the idea of getting more people into Legos and this could be the trick, with its new colors, slightly cartoony pieces and lower price points. I will be checking out the other sets in the series!

4/5

Notes: Built slightly larger than a normal Lego Minifigure, the Friends line is built to a similar scale, allowing them to use previously created items and they can even wear the same hair and hats. Though Olivia makes my minifig cheerleader look positively pudgy...
